Julie Kamlesh Kumar is a sculptor and installation artist who grew up in the contrasting climates and politics of Alaska and Texas and now lives in the San Francisco Bay Area. She received her B.A in Visual Arts magna cum laude from Brown University, and her M.F.A in Sculpture from the Rhode Island School of Design, where she received the prestigious Presidential Scholarship for the top graduates of the class by portfolio review. Her wide-ranging studio practice has taken her from gathering materials in abandoned buildings for hot glass pours, to programming complex robotic environments using water and light, to using Computer Numerical Machines to machine landscapes into large aluminum panels.
Julie has participated in artist residencies at Autodesk Technology Center in San Francisco, the SOHO20 Gallery in New York City, and the Pilchuck Glass School in Seattle. Her work has been exhibited and collected throughout the United States, including 2358 MRKT Gallery, San Francisco, Mercury 20 Gallery, Oakland, Find & Form Projects, Boston, the Gelman Gallery and Sol Koffler Gallery, Providence,This Friday or Next Friday Gallery, Brooklyn, and The Affordable Art Fair, New York City.
